Health vs Weight Loss

Thursday, November 11th, 2010 by Fable

There are some foods you may eat that are fatty or not as nutritious as they could be. But as I have said before, not every meal needs to be about weight loss, it can be just about gaining health.

For example, I bought a new bread that is much healthier than the one I normally get. It doesn’t have the taste I like but if I put a bit more butter on it I can eat it and get the benefit of the raw grains. I’ve said before that I make a salad with 7 raw vegetables in it, but I use a lot of dressing to get myself to eat it. It’s not the most low calorie meal, but certainly the healthiest I eat.

Healthy meals do not always necessarily mean they are low in calories. Sometimes it is important to have those red meats and carbs to get the protein. In order to exercise you must have energy which these foods give you.

Energy For Weight Loss

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010 by Fable

ENERGY. That elusive element that we allow to determine weather or not we will do what we wanted to today. Energy is the key to accomplishment. Have you ever gone to a motivational seminar? These people are ENERGETIC. Try not to confuse being animated  with being energetic. I heard General Colin Powell speak and though he wasn’t animated you could feel his energy and passion pouring through his message.

So then what robs us of this precious resource? Well, we all know that poor health and poor eating habits are a big factor. But what about the little things like arguing a point with a coworker, watching the news too much, being dehydrated, answering every email, call or text.

What about creating more drama than needed? Dr. Condoleezza Rice calls it “nuclear war or paper clips?” She had only those two categories for life problems. We live in a sound bite sensationalized WOW or nothing society. Try removing all the energy away from anything that doesn’t get you where you want and need to be. Say no to everyone who isn’t in an actual 911 situation just for a week. I bet nothing bad will happen and I bet you’ll have more ENERGY.

Lastly, try not to believe yourself when you say I’m too tired. It’s a catch all phrase for sad, mad, temporarily depressed, or pouting.

The Weight Loss Body Disconnect

Thursday, November 4th, 2010 by Fable

It seems forever as humans that we have fought the fact that we have a physical body that we use to move around in. Our push toward ever-increasing our education, though haphazard at best, focuses on the brain. We somehow have lost the joy of living in our bodies- small wonder we have so many physical problems today.

I’m sure you have heard the word DISEASE  broken down as DIS-EASE. Think about that-  no REALLY THINK ABOUT IT. Ask yourself, if you were always at EASE… do you think you would have the physical problems you have today? I know most of mine would simply disappear.

I stopped taking cardio classes a long time ago because there was no fun in those classes for me. I was FIGHTING with my body. I now take dance classes instead- now I’m PLAYING  with my body. See the difference? One class is aggressive and tough, the other is LIGHTHEARTED and silly.

We teach our kids to disconnect with their bodies, our older citizens have to cover up so no one sees their wrinkles, and we as overweight women?  Well, DON’T GET ME STARTED! Oops, I guess I started along time ago.

I love my body as an entity. That’s why I have done much better in the world as a heavy woman than most. And why I believe I was able to get to a smaller, more healthy weight.

Do I still have weight to lose? Yes. But I’m in touch with my body- I feel the joy of movement in it. I look forward to dressing it up, and walking purposefully to wherever I’m going. Hugging many people a day, blowing kisses, making silly gestures, stretching when I wake up like all animals do.

I know I’m ranting a bit but I want you to get back in touch with your body today. Love the feeling of moving it, experiment with what FEELS GOOD.  Maybe, just maybe, if your body thought you loved it, the smaller, more vibrant and healthy version of it would come out and play.

What do you do to connect with your body? Do you see how important it is to be in touch with your body?

Do You Know Your Bad Eating Habits?

Sunday, September 5th, 2010 by Fable

We have all developed some bad habits over the years. Let’s take a look at these and weed them out as best we can.

One of my bad habits is my believing that I can have licorice around and not plow through the whole bag.

Another habit is drinking anything but water, and thinking it is somehow low cal- things like diet coke, ice tea, and wine. These all create other problems, and impede weight loss.

A third one- I eat what’s on my plate and in a fattening pattern. I work away, saving the best for LAST, which means I have to eat the whole meal to get to my favorite bite.

If we just pay attention to HOW we eat, we can make small adjustments and end up lighter, sooner. It’s the habits themselves that detract from our progress. And since Every Ounce Counts, each small change (change being the optimum word) is the real answer.

This website is dedicated to offering you options, and alternative pathways to make these changes.
